Practising silence
... in a world we have forgotten how to sit still and be silent, even for a few moments. All day you are busy with countless chores; at night you sleep ...
For practising silence: We must find a space and set a regular time to practise the art of sitting in silence, to allow ourselves to forget everything and approach our centre within.
If you sit in the morning, do it just after rising, before breakfast, before starting daily activities, so that you will be centered down before starting your day.
If you sit in the evening before going to sleep, do it just before going to bed, in your already darkened room.
If you prefer it may be both.
Sit, spine and head completly straight, eyes closed, sit in silence awakefull and simple, open yourself to your own centre, nothing more. Outwardly the body becomes still inwardly empty. Sit straight without muscular willpower. Put the eyes away from the known world toward the unknown being, without any plan or idea, just watching.
At this point we become aware of our mental activity and we make the surprising discovery – there is a merry-go-round – it´s not we who think.
Do not feed this mental activities by interest or involvement. Watch them by not–doing.
When the five senses and the mind are still and reason itself rests in silence, then the Path supreme begins. This calm steadiness of the senses is called Yoga.
